The Top 5 Wedding Flower Trends for 2017
By Cindy | Wedding Flowers
I’m really looking forward to all of our 2017 weddings and here are my top 5 wedding trends that have been developing towards the end of last year and look like they are set to take hold into this year.
1. Hydrangeas are Tipped to be the Flower of 2017
I’m delighted to see the increase in demand for these stunning flowers. The great news is hydrangeas are available from April to October so can be incorporated into spring, summer and autumn weddings.
I’ve been working with them a lot over the past couple of years and they work wonderfully in bridal bouquets, table centrepieces, churches and ceremony rooms.
This big blousy flower has masses of impact and comes in lots of different colours and shades including white, pink and blue.

2. Lots of Foliage and the Love of all Things Natural
I’m being asked to created designs that have more foliage in than ever, giving a really beautiful natural look to bouquets, table centrepieces and floral room decorations. I can’t decide if it’s due to an increase in outdoor weddings or a desire to have a more natural look.
One of my favourite foliages is eucalyptus, I love its silver grey colour and it smells beautiful. In the photo below you can see it in Sarah’s handtied posy bouquet.
Woodland weddings seem to be becoming really popular. I’ve worked on quite a few woodland wedding themes over the years but it looks like being very popular this year.
We’ve been incorporating wood into room and table decorations in the form of logs, wood slices and the beautiful pussy willow twigs. I’ve also been adding pine cones into the arrangements and placing them on the table as a natural alternative to wedding confetti.
An abundance of foliage also works really well for country wedding flowers. In the photo below you can see the table centrepieces I designed for Jenny’s autumn harvest wedding theme. I filled tall cone vases with pine cones and topped them with twigs and long branches of red leaves to give a very natural look.
As barn wedding venues have become more popular than ever, the rustic wedding theme has also increased. It’s really nice to incorporate the look and feel of the setting into your flower decorations.
I have so many more photos and designs so make sure you check out my Natural Wedding Theme page.
3. Blush Colours are Proving Very Popular
Wedding flower colours are often influenced by the bridesmaids’ dresses. We’ve seen a big trend for delicate soft coloured dresses including mocha, blush pink, taupe and very soft pale green. These pastel colours are often reflected in the flower colour pallet.
Pastel blush flower colours include soft pink, cream and peach and the most popular flower for all of these colours is the rose. We have our favourites in every colour, they are specifically chosen on quality, shape and longevity.
Below you can see our favourite cream rose the beautiful ‘Vendela’ it has a warmth to it that adds a subtle peach tone.
Then there is our blush pink rose ‘Sweet Avalanche’. Below you can see it threaded through an ivory hydrangea.
If you you can’t decide on which one you like the best, then you can combine them to give you a soft range of colours. In the bouquet below you can see how I’ve combined the cream ‘Vendela’ rose with the blush pink ‘Sweet Avalanche’ and ivory gypsophila.
Another popular flower in the blush pink range is the peonie, you can see it here in the bridal bouquet I created for Marie Helene.

4. A Little Bit of Sparkle – Metallic Colour Palette
Metallic’s are predicted to be very popular this year. As there are no natural metallic flowers I often add gold, silver or copper accessories. These can be delicate embellishments to bouquets and buttonholes or large statement pieces such as metallic containers for floral room decorations and table centrepieces.
Coppers and golds add warmth to a room where as silver metals, mirrors and crystals add sparkle.
It is also possible to give a very delicate dusting of metallic to some flowers with special flower sprays.
5. Hanging and Flowing Floral Arrangements
Cascading flowers can really add an opulent look to your wedding decorations. In the photo above you can see how I created a waterfall of blue hydrangeas cascading down Kate’s wedding cake.
I’ve also been producing lots of hanging decorations to feature as statement pieces in barns and churches. Above you can see a heart I created, hanging from the beams in the barn at Wethele Manor.
Hanging garlands and flower arches also make stunning decorations for the outside of churches. As well as providing a beautiful entrance to an outside ceremony.
I love to work with the natural shape of a flower and there are plenty of cascading flowers. Two of our most popular are the Singapore orchids and deep pink amaranthus both of which I’ve used in the centrepieces you can see here. These tall centrepieces looked perfect in the long gallery at Ettington Park.
