Ranunculus Wedding Flowers

by Cindy on February 1, 2010

Ranunculus are just one of my favourite flowers.

ranunculus-wedding-flowersI love them, I don’t really know why as they are not the easiest of flowers to work with but they are just so beautiful. They remind me of giant buttercups!

They have the most amazingly delicate petals and come in a variety of colours including white, red, orange, yellow (very like a buttercup) and pink.

There is also my all time favourite the white one with pink stripes it just looks so pretty.

Ranunculus are available from autumn (late September) through to the early spring (April).

Beautiful Flowers for Handtied Posy Bouquets

ranunculus-in-a-vintage-style-wedding-bouquetI recently used them in Julia and Leighton’s October wedding. They fitted in so well with their vintage wedding theme. Julia decided on a handtied wedding bouquet of cream ‘Vendela’ roses, cream freesias, white ranunculus and delicate peachy orange hypericum berries (seen here). The ranunculus looked divine in this beautiful flower mix and the freesias provided the perfect fragrance. The bouquet was tied with a beautiful wide cream satin bow to keep with the wedding theme. I have to say it was one of my favourite bouquets of the year. The bride was overwhelmed when I delivered them it to her house on the morning of her wedding.

Ranunculus Wedding Centrepieces

ranunculus-centrepiecesWe also used the ranunculus flowers in both the ceremony and reception decorations. For the ceremony we arranged beautiful natural posies of all the bouquet flowers including ranunculus into cream enamel jugs. These looked stunning on the oak windowsill of Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire where the bride and groom were married. We also placed them into jam jars and vintage glass vases for the table arrangements at the wedding breakfast. In this photo you can see how the ranunculus looked just divine on their own in old-fashioned glass bottles.

I’m so glad that they were in season for Julia as they were perfect for her wedding theme and colour scheme. The only thing to remember when working with ranunculus is they won’t go into oasis, as their stems are too delicate.
