Hydrangeas wedding flowers have become a really popular choice, I think this has a lot to do with the recent trend for ‘Vintage Wedding Flowers’. Old-fashioned blooms such as hydrangeas, peonies, stocks, freesias and large bloom roses have all become very fashionable. All of these flowers make really beautiful natural handtied posy bouquets.
In the photo above you can see how I have used a blue hydrangea as a base then placed ivory roses, freesias and bouvardia through the hydrangea to make a unique handtied posy bouquet. This bouquet was made in the summer for a bridesmaid that was wearing a silver grey dress with a pale blue tint to it.
Hydrangea Colours and Seasonality
Hydrangeas are available in pink, white, blue, green and purple. They are in season from the middle of spring through to autumn, which makes them available for a large part of the wedding season.
I also produced this handtied bridesmaid’s posy bouquet (seen in the photo on the left) for a bridesmaid in August.
When discussing flower options with the bride she was keen to use a single flower en masse and the white hydrangea fitted her requirements perfectly. It was also chosen because it complemented the delicate layered fabric in the brides dress.
Hydrangeas Can Be Used In All Sorts of Wedding Arrangements
I carried this hydrangea wedding flower theme right through all of the flower arrangements.
Large white hydrangea heads were used as chair backs in the church. I also arranged tall wedding centrepieces made solely from these beautiful blooms.
You can see more photos of this wedding and other hydrangea wedding flowers we have created on this short video. Hopefully it will give you ideas if you are thinking of using hydrangeas for your wedding.
