Calla lilies make stunning wedding flowers. They are just such elegant and stylish flowers, they work well when used on their own or mixed with other flowers. The great thing about calla lilies is they are available all the year round, so it doesn’t matter what time of the year you’re getting married.
They come in a wide range of colours from white, pale pink, deep pink, burgundy red, dark red, purple through to yellow, green and orange. So there is normally always a colour to suit everyone.
Calla Lily Boquets
One of my favourite designs is our calla lily shower bouquet (seen here) it’s simply stunning. The whole bouquet including down to the trailing point is packed full of these beautiful flowers. We first designed this bouquet back in 2005 and have produced it so many times since then. Recently Emily asked us to add beautiful diamante clusters in between the lilies to give it a real sparkle.
Hand tied sheaf bouquets are also a really effective bouquet shape for calla lilies. We have produced this shape of bouquet for both brides and bridesmaids on many occasions. We often add delicate strands of beargrass in-between the lilies.
Another popular bouquet if the handtied posy, it looks really good when a mass of calla lilies are used on their own or works equally well when combined with other flowers. You can see here a recent bouquet produced using mango orange calla lilies, beautiful orange ‘Cherry Brandy’ roses and lime green hypericum berries for Amy’s October wedding. The posy looked amazing and the beautiful mango calla lilies really were the feature flower.
Calla Lily Accessories
For very young flower girls we often decorate a single calla lily flower with a coordinating satin ribbon bow. It’s a flower that can look stunning on it’s own so this is a great idea for the really young ones.
The calla lily is also a really effective when used for the buttonholes, we have quite a few different designs of calla lily buttonholes that we have created over the years. The shape and length of the lily means it sits really well on the lapel of a jacket.
Cost
Calla lilies can unfortunately be quite expensive depending on the time of year of your wedding. This is because it’s such a popular flower so demand is high and this pushes up the wholesale price. But don’t let this put you off as there are lots of flowers that you can combine it with that won’t blow your budget. Because it’s such a statement flower you don’t always have to have lots of them.
